Our programmes are boosting pass rates
A pass in GCSE English or maths is not just a grade – it’s a gateway to further study, better job opportunities, and a brighter future. Our impact data shows that our programmes are transformative in helping students secure these vital qualifications. Between September 2021 and May 2025, pass rates for students who attended a term or more of tuition were substantially higher than the national average:
For GCSE maths, pass rates were 55% higher than the national average.
For GCSE English, pass rates were 72% higher than the national average.
Our programmes are narrowing the attainment gap
The attainment gap between young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and their more advantaged peers is stark. Each year, 1 in 2 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds leave school without a standard pass in GCSE English and maths, and they are less likely than their peers to pass their resits in post-16 education. Our impact data from 2021-2024 demonstrates that our programmes succeed in narrowing the attainment gap for students who attend a term or more of tuition:
GCSE maths pass rates were more than twice as high as the national average for students facing disadvantage.

How we measure our impact
At Get Further, we are committed to continuously driving up the quality of support we offer students. Our dedicated Data and Insights team gathers information and analyses what is working well on our programmes and how we can further refine our approach to enhance student outcomes. Surveys
Students complete surveys at the beginning and end of the programme to collect comparable data on subject knowledge, as well as metrics related to motivation, confidence, learning strategies, and test anxiety, in line with the MSLQ model.
Our tutors complete a survey before and after their initial tutor training to help them and our team to identify their strengths and areas for development. At the end of the year, they complete another survey to provide feedback and insights into their growth and career trajectories.
At the end of the year, a survey is also sent out to teachers and leaders at our partner providers, capturing their feedback on the programme and working with us.
Focus groups and interviews
At the end of each year, we conduct focus groups and interviews with students, tutors and partners. This allows us to obtain more detailed feedback on their experiences of delivering or receiving tuition with Get Further and to probe how we can make our programmes better.
Outcome data
Our partner colleges provide us with final exam grade data for the students we supported following the August results day, allowing us to analyse student pass rate and progress outcomes in each setting and programme-wide.
External evaluations
We commissioned ImpactEd Evaluation to conduct an in-depth review of our GCSE Resit Programme for 2023-24 and 2024-25. Over both years, we have collaborated with select college partners to establish a comparator group, enabling us to assess the outcomes of students enrolled in Get Further against those receiving standard support.
Looking ahead to 2025-26, we are partnering with the Education Endowment Foundation and the University of Warwick to evaluate the impact of our small-group tuition programme for students resitting GCSE English and maths.
