Become a Get Further Tutor

Our tutors have the passion for using their subject knowledge to boost prospects for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and close the gap in educational inequality

Please note: Our programmes for 2023-24 are now full. We expect to reopen applications in June 2024.

BECOME AN HOURLY PAID TUTOR

Our hourly paid Tutors are paid based on the number of session they deliver each week. They deliver sessions only during term time and are generally not expected to provide any programme support outside of tutoring sessions.

“…the students and I leave each session with a real buzz that they’re making progress and gaining in confidence.”

Transform life chances

Young people with GCSE English and maths are significantly more likely to stay in education, study higher-level qualifications and secure better-paid jobs. By becoming a Get Further tutor, you would have a direct impact on the life chances of students facing challenges in education and work.

Kick-start your career

  • Receive expert training on how to be an impactful and engaging tutor
  • Gain unique insight into tackling educational inequality
  • Receive access to expert advice and support for a career in education
  • Build transferable skills to launch your career

Earn £18 an hour

You’ll be paid £18 for every hour of tuition you deliver. You’ll have you the flexibility to build a working week that suits your needs – allowing you to make the most of your time and build your CV.

Why you Should Become a Get Further Tutor

Without GCSE English and maths, young people are at greater risk of dropping out of education by 18, can struggle to access higher-level qualifications and can face limited opportunities for progression in work.

By becoming a Get Further tutor, you will help students facing challenges in further education to improve their skills and gain key qualifications, supporting them to realise their aspirations for education and work. You will use your knowledge and enthusiasm to transform their life chances – and open doors for opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise access.

At the same time, you will build a suite of transferable skills, learning how to teach and motivate and supercharging your CV – all while earning. Through Get Further, you’ll have the flexibility to study or work in other roles, alongside tutoring.

How our programme works

  • Our tuition programmes start in September, November or January/February, with tuition continuing until students’ exams (either in November or end of May).
  • Get Further operates nationwide – our biggest regions are London and Yorkshire but we have partner colleges in the North West, the Midlands and the South East and are seeking to expand to additional regions.
  • In the 2021/22 academic year, tutoring was mostly delivered face to face as coronavirus restrictions were lifted. We anticipate that most of our tuition will be delivered onsite at colleges on an ongoing basis.
  • On average, Get Further tutors do 6 hours of tutoring with us per week. However, for individual tutors, hours range from 1 to 20 hours per week depending on tutor availability and programme demand locally.
  • There are usually opportunities to add more hours during the year as new programmes start or additional students enrol.

Our Lead Tutors are paid a salary for a set number of hours per week, regardless of how many tutoring sessions they deliver. Lead tutors are supplied with a laptop and a mobile to provide additional programme support, acting as a vital link between students and our Programmes Team.

“Working as a Lead Tutor has been a great introduction to the further education sector and has allowed me to progress into the core Get Further team as a Programme Coordinator.
