You can join the Get Further team in two types of tutoring role:

Our Hourly Tutors use our innovative, fully-resourced English and maths curriculum to deliver impactful small-group tutoring sessions to students working towards GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications. Tutors can commit to delivering as few as 2 or up to 20 hours per week.

Our Senior Tutors are paid a set salary and can choose to work either part-time or full-time. Alongside delivering high-quality tutoring sessions, they support the wider success of the programme. This includes boosting student enrolment and engagement and supporting the development of fellow tutors.

Which tutoring role is right for me?

Our Hourly Tutor role is ideal for candidates who are new to tutoring or seeking flexibility to fit the position around other commitments such as studying or caring responsibilities. Our ongoing professional development support makes this role a great choice for new tutors looking to build up their skillset while making a positive difference to the students you support. 
 
Our Senior Tutor role is best suited to candidates who have some previous experience of tutoring or teaching. You retain the flexibility to work either part- or full-time (15 hours minimum). The role offers opportunities to continue to grow your teaching skills and gain valuable experience of working in the education and charity sectors. 

Who can become a tutor?

Applicants for our Hourly Tutor roles do not need previous experience of tutoring to become a tutor with Get Further, since we offer two days of paid training with expert teachers and ongoing professional development support. We are seeking candidates who believe in our mission and demonstrate: 
 
  • Passion for tackling educational inequality, with an understanding of the challenges faced by students from disadvantaged backgrounds. 
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and engage students effectively. 
  • Resilience and professionalism, committed to consistently delivering high-quality tuition and supporting students to achieve their full potential. 
  • Insight and empathy into the challenges facing students today, able to build rapport and foster positive relationships with students and college staff. 
  • Aptitude for building and managing relationships, collaborating effectively with students and staff to support student progress and success.

How do I become a tutor?

Step 1: APPLY

Submit the initial online form to indicate your interest. 

Step 2: COMPLETE A SUBJECT TEST AND APPLICATION

To test your subject knowledge, you will be invited to complete an online English or maths test, which should be completed within 3 days of applying. 

If successful, you will be invited to complete your application in full, indicating why you think you’d be a great Get Further tutor and which location(s) you are interested in working in.

Step 3: ATTEND AN ASSESSMENT CENTRE

If your application is successful, we will invite you to an assessment centre so that we can find out more about your motivations and suitability for the role. If you have expressed an interest in being a Senior Tutor and there is demand for this position in your location, you will also be invited to an additional interview.

Step 4: OFFER AND ONBOARDING

Successful candidates will be sent an offer to join our pool of tutors. At this stage, you must complete all pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS, right to work, and submission of professional references.

Step 5: TUTOR TRAINING

Once you have been onboarded, you will complete two days of paid training with our Curriculum Managers, who will teach you how to use our carefully designed resources to deliver impactful sessions to your students. Once complete, we will support you to keep developing your skills throughout the year with additional training, feedback and resources.

Step 6: JOIN OUR TUTOR POOL

Once you have completed training, Hourly Tutors will be added to our tutor pool and offered placements in your preferred location(s) as and when they become available. Senior Tutors will have been matched to a specific college or further education provider during the recruitment process.
