Today, we’re pleased to share early insights into the impact of our Functional Skills Tuition Programme, which provides targeted, in‑depth support for young people and adults who have previously struggled with English and maths to gain the skills and qualifications needed to access training and work opportunities.
Many of the students we support through this programme are those who have faced some of the steepest barriers to achieving English and maths qualifications, often entering with low prior attainment or after a significant period out of education. Through small‑group tuition, our programme ensures these challenges don’t hold students back from progressing in apprenticeships or the workplace.
That’s why we’re delighted to share that pass rates for students on the programme were above the national average in both subjects: 16% higher in English and 3% higher in maths.
We’re now building on this success as we scale the programme. Our ambition is to set a new standard for personalised, data‑informed and inclusive English and maths provision, enabling students to progress confidently into training and employment, in line with our core principles:
- An adaptive and student-centered model
- A skilled and supported tutor workforce
- Re-engaging young people at risk of long-term disengagement
