We are Get Further, a charity providing English and maths tuition to students resitting their GCSEs. We aim to transform the experience of students studying English and maths at college, helping them to build their skills and realise their aspirations for education and work.
We are working with ImpactEd Evaluation to evaluate the impact of our tutoring programme on the students involved. ImpactEd Evaluation is a social enterprise that exists to help evaluate, understand and improve impact in education. It works with organisations, schools and colleges, using high-quality research and evaluation to generate better evidence on how to support young people.
To help with this evaluation, we are inviting all students resitting GCSE maths and/or English, who are not taking part in a Get Further programme, to complete a short survey.
What does taking part involve?
- Completing a short (about 5-10 minutes) survey: and
- Agreeing for your college to share your exam results, attendance data, and some demographic information with us.
Why should I take part?
The survey will give you insights into your motivation, confidence, and other measures, which can help direct your learning and development. All students who take part will be entered into a draw to win a £20 Amazon voucher. There is a voucher up for grabs at every college.

What will the research be used for?
What will we do with the findings?
Your responses to the survey, and your college data, will be used to measure the impact of Get Further tuition on students taking part in the programme. Our analysis and findings will be written up in an ‘impact report’ which will be published on our website and shared with college partners and others in the FE sector. We may also use the analysis and findings in other publications such as blog posts, social media posts and other materials. All responses will be anonymous, this means that you will not be named or identified in our research, reports, or other outputs.
How will you use and protect my data?
Any information and data you share, or is shared by the college, will be held securely and kept confidential. We will only collect and process your personal information to effectively evaluate the programme. Your data will be shared with ImpactEd Evaluation, for the purposes of this research and evaluation activity. Please see our Evaluation Privacy Notice (below) which contains more information on how we ensure data is collected safely, stored securely, and destroyed in a timely manner.
What will you ask me in the survey?
The survey will ask you to consent to take part in the evaluation, and to consent to your college sharing your data (on exam results, attendance and demographic data). It will ask for some background information, such as the college you are enrolled at, the course you are studying, previous exam results for GCSE maths and/or English. The survey will also ask you to consider statements relating to:
- Motivation
- Confidence
- Test anxiety
- Learning strategies
Who sees my survey responses?
Your survey responses will go to Get Further and will be reviewed by the Senior Data and Insights Officer there. Your survey responses will also be shared with ImpactEd Evaluation, so they can undertake their analysis and identify key patterns or themes in student responses. Please note, your individual survey responses will not be shared with your college, unless you share something which tells us you or someone else is at risk of serious harm, or being harmed. In which case, we may need to disclose this information with your college. A report which highlights key findings, will be shared with your college, but at no point will you be named or identified in that report.
What data will my college share?
Your college will be asked to share the following data, at the end of the academic year:
- Your GCSE or Functional Skills results (grade and scores, as applicable) in August 2026;
- Your previous GCSE or Functional Skills results (grade and scores, as applicable);
- Data on your attendance at the college, your course and on maths/English courses;
- Some limited demographic information on you: gender, disability or special educational needs information, your postcode, and eligibility for previous free school meals/ college meals.
Will I be mentioned by name or identified in your work?
No. All data and information will be anonymised. Meaning your name will be removed and personal identifying information will also be removed.
How does the prize draw work?
All students who sign up to the evaluation, provide their email to take part in the prize draw, consent to the sharing of their data and complete the survey will be entered into a free prize draw (‘Eligible Participants’). There is one entry per eligible participant – anyone who completes the survey multiple times will only be entered into the prize draw once. The prize draw will take place in December 2024, for students who complete the survey by 30th November 2024 (Group 1). A second prize draw will take place in March 2025, for students who complete the survey by 28th February 2025 (Group 2). Participants will only be asked to complete the survey once (either in October/November or January/February) and completing the survey more than once won’t increase the chances of winning the Amazon voucher.
Eligible Participants will be entered into a college-specific draw. The email addresses of Eligible Participants will be used, in a computer tool, to choose a winner at random. The prize is a £20 Amazon Voucher, available to one Eligible Participant, chosen at random, in each partner college of Get Further. The Amazon Voucher will be emailed, to the winner, by the end of the month in which the draw takes place (i.e. December or March, as applicable).
What if I change my mind?
You can, of course, change your mind at any time. If you would like to withdraw from the evaluation, and would prefer that your data is not used, please email: hello@getfurther.org.uk with the subject ‘Get Further/ImpactEd evaluation’.
