Get Further’s first national conference will bring together teachers, sector leaders, and policymakers for a day focused on what works in post-16 English and maths. We’ll explore practical, evidence-based approaches to make sure no student is left behind.

Doug Lemov
Doug’s work speaks directly to the forum’s core themes: belief in students’ potential, evidence-based teaching, and practical strategies rooted in real classrooms.
Doug Lemov is the author of Teach Like a Champion, now in its 3.0 version, which describes the techniques used by high-performing classroom teachers to achieve outlier results. The book is widely known for its clear, practical guidance and for the videos of hundreds of classroom teachers that accompany it, bringing effective practice to life in a way that is both accessible and actionable.
Doug is also the co-author, with Erica Woolway and Colleen Driggs, of the Teach Like a Champion Guide to the Science of Reading. This work explores how cognitive science can be better applied to the teaching of reading, helping educators translate research into meaningful classroom practice.
He holds a BA in English from Hamilton College, an MA in English Literature from Indiana University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Doug’s keynote will offer practical insight and clear strategies to support high-quality, ambitious teaching, particularly for students who need it most, making it directly relevant for those working in post-16 English and maths.
DR Jaz Ampaw-Farr
Jaz is a multi-award-winning international speaker, author, and resilience expert. She is a force of nature, a self-proclaimed re-storier who transforms pain into power and challenges into change. Recognised as one of the UK’s most sought-after motivational speakers, she combines authenticity, humour, and powerful storytelling to create lasting impact.
Jaz has lived the extremes: from surviving childhood abuse, running away from foster care, and experiencing life on the streets, to becoming a BBC education expert, TEDx speaker, and globally in-demand keynote speaker. Her TEDx talk, The Power of Everyday Heroes, has reached audiences worldwide, highlighting the life-changing role educators can play.
In 2025, Jaz published her memoir, Because of You, This Is Me, a tribute to the teachers who helped shape her life, and a powerful reminder of what is possible when young people are truly seen, supported, and believed in.
As co-founder of Be Human First Ltd, Jaz works with leaders to build cultures grounded in connection, compassion, and courage. Across all her work, she centres those supporting young people who have fallen behind but are far from finished.
Her keynote will create space for reflection while inspiring renewed momentum, encouraging educators and practitioners to recognise the profound difference they make, and the importance of staying committed to every student’s potential.
