Get Further exists to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in further education to secure gateway English and maths qualifications that unlock opportunities. Our vision is for every young person and adult to achieve the qualifications they need to progress and thrive in education, work, and life.
2018
Get Further won the Teach First Innovation Award – a nationwide competition to find the next big ideas for tackling educational inequality. Later that year, we launched our pilot tuition programme for GCSE maths resit students.
2019
We expanded our provision to cover both maths and English, piloting a tuition programme for students resitting GCSE English in autumn 2019.
2021-23
Thanks to the support of our partners, funders and dedicated team, we scaled rapidly across the next few years. Nearly 400 fantastic Get Further tutors delivered transformative tuition to nearly 5,000 students resitting GCSEs at 50 FE providers across England.
2023-24
In 2023, we designed an innovative new programme to support learners to gain the Functional Skills L2 qualifications needed to complete or progress onto an apprenticeship. A pilot was launched in early 2024 in partnership with LSBU Group.
2024
We unveiled our new five-year strategy: A Vision of Excellence for Post-16 English and Maths, setting out our ambitious plans to lead the way in raising standards in post-16 English and maths education.
2025
We are partnering with the EEF to evaluate the impact of our GCSE Resit Tuition Programme in 2025-26. This is the first large-scale, independent evaluation of our programmes and will provide critical insights into how we can continue to drive-up our impact.
